Hi, I am Ludwig

I am an AI engineer based in Berlin, focused on conversational AI and customer service automation. I believe AI has the power to fundamentally change how we work, but only when it is done right. In 2023, I co-founded logen.ai with a simple conviction: AI should function, not frustrate. That means caring less about chasing the latest model and more about the unglamorous parts: system integration, reliability at scale, and whether the thing actually helps people do their jobs. Real transformation requires deep integration, not AI sprinkled onto existing processes where it adds complexity without value.

Professional Journey

I have been building AI and NLP systems since 2017, when even simple FAQ bots required months of work. Today you can achieve the same result in an hour, but the fundamental challenge has not changed: creating systems that integrate seamlessly into business processes and scale effectively.

Since founding logen.ai in August 2023, I have led the development of AI solutions that transform customer service operations across industries including energy, hospitality, banking, and telecommunications. As CTO, I focus on what truly matters: not just the latest model, but building systems that solve hard, real-world problems.

Our achievements at logen.ai demonstrate this approach:

  • We developed AIdapt, our SaaS platform for automated AI agent optimization and analysis
  • We successfully migrated 800,000+ annual conversations from a legacy rule-based chatbot to an AI agent solution with zero downtime
  • We improved bot resolution rates from 30% to 60%+, halving customer handover rates through systematic optimization
  • We won the 2025 Service Summit Startup Award, selected from 15 competing startups
  • We scaled to 10+ client implementations across energy, banking, and retail sectors, while being fully bootstrapped with a team of 10

Before co-founding logen.ai, I spent eight years at IBM, progressing from a dual student to Senior Consultant and Solutions Architect. This journey shaped my expertise in delivering production-grade AI at scale and taught me the difference between proof-of-concepts and production systems.

As Senior Consultant for Artificial Intelligence (2019-2023), I served as Technical Lead and Solutions Architect for a virtual assistant with a major telecommunications provider, handling over 250,000 conversations monthly with integrated Voice and Image Recognition capabilities. From 2021 onward, I transitioned to a part-time role while completing my Master’s degree at the University of Groningen. I developed sophisticated dialog clustering mechanisms with integrated feedback pipelines and led a technical team of 10 people.

A career highlight was leading the Virtual Assistant Tribe (2020-2021) and serving as Technical Lead for the Enhanced Conversation Asset (EVA). EVA shortened chatbot development from months to days and has been deployed in 20+ projects worldwide. This work earned me IBM’s Outstanding Technical Achievement Award.

Earlier, as an AI Consultant (2017-2019), I led the development of a Digital Product Advisor for an energy supplier with dynamically generated dialog options, and built a Customer Service Assistant handling 60,000+ monthly conversations. I also mentored Bachelor students and contributed to the development of the EVA asset during this period.

My foundation was built during my integrated degree program (2014-2017), combining academic study at the Cooperative State University Stuttgart (DHBW Stuttgart) with hands-on internships across several IBM departments. International experiences included working with IBM Hungary on business process optimization and an internship with IBM iX as a technical team leader for Watson proof-of-concepts. Before entering tech, I spent a year with the German Red Cross (2013-2014) in a Voluntary Social Year, working with intellectually disabled individuals.

Education

To deepen my technical foundation beyond practical experience, I completed my Master’s in Artificial Intelligence with honors at the University of Groningen (2021-2023) with a specialization in Multi-Agent Systems. This academic deep-dive reinforced my theoretical understanding of modern AI and kept me at the cutting edge of the field.

During this time, I also contributed to the research community as a co-author of “Inseq: An Interpretability Toolkit for Sequence Generation Models”, reflecting my commitment to advancing the field beyond just implementation.

I hold a Bachelor of Science in International Management for Business and Information Technology from Cooperative State University Stuttgart (2014-2017), earned through the dual study program with IBM.

Technical Expertise & Philosophy

I am passionate about solving hard, real-world AI problems that require more than just plugging in the latest model. My expertise spans:

AI & Machine Learning: Natural Language Processing (NLP), Large Language Models (LLMs), Conversational AI, Multi-Agent Systems, and Machine Learning (ML). I have deep experience with conversational AI platforms, particularly Parloa (AMP certified), and extensive work in speech recognition, image recognition, dialog management, and recommendation algorithms.

Architecture & Integration: Cloud & System Architecture, LLM Applications, and seamless system integration. I architect end-to-end solutions that integrate with existing business processes, design scalable systems that handle hundreds of thousands of conversations with robust pipelines for production environments.

Technical Leadership: I have led project teams ranging from 3 to 10+ people, delivering complex AI implementations for enterprise clients. I combine deep technical expertise with the ability to translate business requirements into effective AI solutions and mentor teams to excellence.

Technology-Agnostic Approach: I believe in choosing the right tool for the problem rather than forcing a one-size-fits-all solution. Whether it is AWS, IBM Cloud, or other platforms, I focus on what delivers measurable impact for the specific use case.

What Drives Me

I care about building systems that scale, that integrate seamlessly, and that deliver measurable impact. The rapid evolution of AI, especially Large Language Models, presents unprecedented opportunities, but the real value comes from deep integration into business processes, not just impressive demos.

Every project is an opportunity to learn, iterate, and push the boundaries of what AI can achieve in the real world. I am particularly excited about the intersection of conversational AI and customer experience, where thoughtful implementation can fundamentally transform how businesses serve their customers.

Beyond Work

I am based in Berlin, Germany, and fluent in both German and English (native/bilingual level), with working knowledge of Dutch and Korean. I am always interested in connecting with people tackling challenging AI applications in customer experience and beyond, especially those who appreciate that real transformation requires more than just the latest model.

In my free time, I enjoy riding my bike around Berlin, playing computer games (typical, I know), and traveling whenever I have the chance.
